Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

Safety is non-negotiable.

GIWU Construction is committed to zero harm across every project. Our HSEQ framework protects people, the environment, and the quality of every structure we deliver across Ghana.

Our Framework

HSEQ is embedded in every project phase.

At GIWU Construction, Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality are not afterthoughts or compliance checkboxes. They are foundational to how we plan, execute, and hand over every project. From initial scope definition through final commissioning, our HSEQ framework governs decision-making at every level.

Our management systems ensure that risks are identified early, controls are implemented before work begins, and continuous monitoring maintains standards throughout project delivery.

Every team member, subcontractor, and site visitor is bound by the same HSEQ standards. No exceptions.
Core Pillars

Six pillars that define how we work.

Each pillar reinforces the others, forming an integrated framework that protects people, assets, and the environment on every GIWU project.

01

Zero-Harm Commitment

No project is worth a single injury. GIWU operates under the principle that all workplace incidents are preventable, and every worker has the right to return home safely at the end of each day.

02

HSEQ Management Systems

Structured management systems govern all site activities, from mobilisation through demobilisation. Documented procedures, checklists, and accountability ensure nothing is left to chance.

03

International Standards

Our operations align with ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety), ISO 14001 (environmental management), and ISO 9001 (quality management), along with GHS regulatory requirements.

04

Risk & Hazard Management

Proactive risk identification drives every project. Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS), hazard control hierarchies, and Job Hazard Analyses are completed before any task begins on site.

05

Continuous Safety Training

Site inductions, daily toolbox talks, specialist certifications, and refresher training programmes keep every worker informed, competent, and aware of evolving risks on active sites.

06

Environmental Stewardship

Responsible waste disposal, pollution prevention, dust and noise control, and resource-efficient practices ensure our projects minimise environmental impact and comply with local regulations.

Safety Culture

Our Safety Culture

Safety at GIWU is not a department or a document. It is a culture woven into every project, every team briefing, and every decision made on site. From the project manager to the newest labourer, everyone is empowered and expected to stop unsafe work immediately.

We believe that a strong safety culture directly improves quality, productivity, and client satisfaction. When people feel protected, they perform better.

PPE Enforcement Mandatory personal protective equipment for every person on site, with no exceptions. Regular PPE condition checks and replacements.
Daily Safety Briefings Every workday begins with a safety briefing covering the day's tasks, associated hazards, control measures, and emergency procedures.
Incident Reporting & Investigation All incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions are reported, investigated, and addressed with corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Stop Work Authority Any worker at any level has the authority and responsibility to stop work immediately when they observe unsafe conditions or behaviour.
Emergency Preparedness Emergency response plans, first-aid provisions, fire safety equipment, and evacuation drills are in place on every active site.
Subcontractor Compliance All subcontractors are required to meet GIWU's HSEQ standards. Compliance is verified before mobilisation and monitored throughout the project.
Quality Assurance

Built right, the first time.

Quality at GIWU is not an aspiration. It is a disciplined process of inspection, documentation, and verification that runs through every phase of construction. Our quality management approach ensures that materials, workmanship, and final deliverables meet or exceed specified standards.

Every project follows a structured quality plan with defined checkpoints, inspection criteria, and sign-off protocols. Deviations are documented, investigated, and resolved before work proceeds to the next phase.

01
Pre-Construction Quality plan development, material specification review, supplier vetting, and pre-qualification of subcontractors against quality criteria.
02
Material Procurement Incoming material inspections, test certificate verification, and storage compliance to ensure all materials meet project specifications.
03
Active Construction In-process inspections, hold-point verification, dimensional checks, weld inspections, and work-in-progress documentation at every critical stage.
04
Testing & Commissioning Functional testing, pressure testing, alignment verification, and system commissioning against design specifications before handover.
05
Handover & Close-Out As-built documentation, quality dossier compilation, defect resolution, client walkthrough, and formal sign-off to close the quality loop.
